If you drive with cheap spot lights in the rain, you are unable to see the road ahead where in the expensive lights it doesn’t reflex off the rain. 5700k is the best for driving with stormy weathers.

See a lot of KC fanboys etc but I mean honestly unless your a millionaire I don’t see how anyone could justify the difference for that price. Personally I’d spend $300 + on a better quality light bar which would be a lot better then the $90 one although it’s still plenty. And use the other $1600-1900+ on other mods for vehicle whether that be more lights, engine / rims whatever.
    Just makes no sense honestly

You know.. you can wire up those pod leds on a separate switch… not really a drawback of the cheaper system considering you just wired them all up together. Even then If your gonna use the big light bar, why would you NOT want the other lights on too? The reverse could be functional I guess for around other traffic etc.

You really missed an opportunity on this one. I have a far superior lighting set up than the KCs and spent still a fraction of h the price. Also think about this, $2k for KCs or $2k of low's kind of lights 🤔

A interesting, informative test on comparing both types. I have been running a LED bar for maybe 4 years, it gets a lot of use being in Australia. For the money I would go the cheaper bar, there is only a certain amount of light you need to see the road for safety. I would be tempted to add a second full length bar to the bull bar though, so $180 is still far short of the $2k.

I think a Low Truck with 4500k or 5000k LEDs woulda had them drooling. I think the Low Truck had 6000 to 6500k which gave the light a more blue tint and I think that's what the guys meant about the KC's having a "more real" lighting.

Real question why didnt you do an apples to apples comparison? Light bars to light bars or round to round. Even harbor fright sells the same exact housing as your front two kc lights for under $20 a piece. I grew up with kc ligths on trucks and buggies and they just look out dated. However comparing longevity it takes less than a day and some silicone to make the cheap bar seal better and last.

After all this cheap vs expensive is done, you two should hash out what you'd actually spend knowing you know after the testing.
Would any of the expensive stuff end up on a rig you would spend your own money on? Would any of the cheapest stuff make the grade? Or would all of it be in between. But closer to the cheap end.
Lockers are probably the only expensive part that was worth it.

First off, appearance really comes down to preference and I feel like appearance is really influenced by knowledge in this case. I didn't know how much a cheap light bar was and always thought of them as cool looking on a truck. Knowing now that they're cheaper has somewhat influenced what I thought prior to watching the video. The bulbs never really stood out to me like light bars did on trucks before I saw the video because I didn't know they could cost +$1,000 (which is ridiculous imo). Appearance wise, I think both look great so that doesn't influence my opinion between them.
Utility wise, I think they both do their jobs well. The light bar shines light only a slightly shorter distance. As for the color of the light bar, it's likely +6,500 Kelvin's which is what gives it the blue hue. There are light bars that are closer to ~3,500 Kelvin's which is around the color of a sunset so the bulbs don't always have that specific advantage. The bar also does a better job at flooding while the bulbs do a better job as a spotlight. Maybe the footage doesn't do the bulbs justice, but for +$2,000 you'd expect something that performs as much as it costs. Considering how hyped up you guys were for the brand of the bulbs, my bet is the price is in the name. Like others have said, a middle -> lower range light system would do the trick.
As a side note, the bar and the spotlights on low team could easily be separated with some switches and extra cable for

I'm curious how the mounts for the lights will degrade over a long period of time. The light bar is carrying a lot of weight which is distributed to the two mounting spots putting a lot more force/pivot in those areas. I think over time the mounting points would get rounded out resulting in leaks and rust. The KC lights mount individually on the rail and will probably loosen the rail itself before the roof takes on any stress. Its a minute detail in the grand scheme of things since you're taking the truck on the trail but something to consider.
